About

Since being a young girl, the pressure has been on Alanis to walk in the footsteps of her great uncle, the legendary Basilean hero Gnaeus Sallustis. Now she has the opportunity to prove herself on the battlefield. Her rousing hymns and sermons featuring the words of the Shining Ones inspire those around her and encourage them to greater feats of heroism in the name of the Hegemony. After the loss of her father Baraeus Sallustis and mother Celeste Sallustis at a young age, Gnaeus helped guide her into becoming the hero she now is.

Alanis is accompanied by hand-picked and trusted warriors - hailing from the city of Tarisios, which lies south-east of the Forest of Galahir. These three other units bring a balanced mix of cavalry, ranged and melee options to bear against the enemies of the Hegemon - the perfect company for a young war priest facing the dangers of Pannithor.

Biography

Early Years

Alanis was born to Baraeus Sallustis and Celeste Sallustis. From birth Alanis was pressured to follow in her "uncle" footsteps, Gnaeus Sallustis and would often be questioned on if she would become a great paladin like him.

3854

In 3854, near the end of the Edge of the Abyss war, Alanis' father Baraeus Sallustis was a diplomat whoo travelled around Basilean Hegemony and was assigned to deliver speeches by the Basilean government. Baraeus would travel often with his wife, Celeste Sallustis. On one of the trips around Basilean to deliver another speech, their travelling carriage was attacked by the Forces of the Abyss, killing both Baraeus and Celeste with leaving only one men-at-arms guard alive to report back the incident, leaving Alanis an orphan.

Gnaeus Sallustis, riding Nakir, would attended his cousin funeral, Baraeus and Celeste. While present there, Alanis approached Gnaeus and pleaded to be trained by him then join him on the battlefield to get her vengeance. Gnaeus told her that she was the last in the Sallustis line and that that Basilea cannot risk her life in battle, instead he sent Alanis away to train to become a War Priest.

Alanis would learn rudimentary field surgery and often the camps would ring out with the sound of her singing of hymns. While tending to the soldiers, she would train with the Men-at-Arms Swordsmen and paladins, honing her skills as a fighter. This resulted in other War Priest being critical of her.

One night, her camp was attacked by Orcs and Alanis engaged in combat with them. As she fought, she sang a hymn which inspired the other defenders of the camp and drove back the Orcs. This earned her the right to lead small bands of troops into enemy territory.

3870

In 3870, Alanis was investigating through the trading town of Dar-Esa in Estacarr with a Basilean force. The Basileans took an old Yan traveller prisoner to a nearby tavern and into its cellar, bounding him to a wooden chair and leaving him alone. Alanis then arrived along with a War Wizard and pulled a stone fragment with part of a carved symbol on it. Alanis began to interogate the prisoner for information on this symbol as she had heard the prisoner had information on it. After seeing through the prisoner's lies, Alanis exposed the prisoner to its recent movements on sketching town layouts, palisades and defensive lines.

The prisoner then revealed that they break the tablets when our task is complete and if they are compromised, we pass it onto another to act in our place. The prisoner went on to reveal that it was them who was being hunted and that it has already begun. The prisoner's masters had offered the elders of Dar-Esa three chances to comply and what would happen if they did not. The elders of Dar-Esa didn't want to accept the reality of what was happening and ignored the threat.

As the prison explained, the ground began to shake and bottles in the cellar began to rattle, hearing screams and inhuman growls from upstairs. The prisoner advised that they were out of time and Alanis released the prisoner in hopes that it would buy them time to escape. Alanis, the War Wizard and the prisoner climbed out from the cellar.
