“Fight not in anger, or it shall dictate all you do. Fight instead like the sea, implacable, mysterious, and undefeatable.” - Salamander Proverb

Salamander is an ancient race of reptilian, amphibian fire-people, whose scaly hides protect them from enemies and make them look fearsome.

About

Their blood burns with great heat, resulting in billowing vapours from their jaws.

The curse of Winter installed a chill in their hearts, meaning they are now cold-blooded. While the fires of Kthorlag burns within them, warming their blood and thereby fighting the death-chill, salamanders must recharge themselves by basking in the sun.

Though strongly reptilian in appearance, the original Salamanders were actually amphibious, warm-blooded creatures.

They eventually evolved the tough scaly hide and muscular appearance common to reptilians over thousands of years. Winter’s curse instilled the death-chill of Winter’s ice into their very blood, where it wars alongside the white hot fires that were Kthorlaq’s final blessing to them. They need to recharge their internal fires, lest they succum to the final chill.

Young Salamanders' blood burns the hottest and are able to go weeks or months without needing the replenish their fires, for this reason most of the ranks are younger warriors, it also goes towards the Salamanders reputation within other races as fiery and wrathful.

As they grow and age, their skin hardens and darkens, and the time they can spend away from the fires diminishes.

All fires work, but none moreso than the pure fires of the spirit of Kthorlaq in the Three Kings. Salamanders take regular pilgrimages to the mountains, until their final pilgramage where they return for a final time, allowing their flesh to melt from their bones and their bones turn to ash, absorbed back into the fires.

As they age Salamanders need to recharge more regularly and gradually get slower, to the point of never venturing beyond The Three Kings.

They are the main protectors of the reborn reptilian civilisation, and the core of the army, some join the navy to add muscle to the ships crew call themselvesv Corsairs (such as Firebrand).
