Men-at-Arms Spearmen are the rank and file soldiers of the famous Basilean Legion.
About
Whereas the bulk of the infantry of most human armies are made up of peasants pressed into military service under the feudal system, the Basilean Legion is one of the few professional armies in Pannithor.
So wealthy is the Hegemony, the soldiers of the Legion are clad in armour that even the nobility of some nations would envy. Blocks of infantry are normally armed with either the 'daga' sword or the broad-bladed 'koliskos' spear, accompanied by the distinctive winged shield of the Legion.
Whereas the paladin orders are under the control of the Hegemon himself, the democratically elected Basilean Duma exercises executive control over the men-at-arms of the Legion - accepting, of course, that the Hegemon retains the right to overrule the Duma's commands.

A Basilean legion numbers between one thousand and ten thousand men. Unlike those of the Republic, the legions of the Hegemon are not self-contained military organisations, but specialised formations – light cavalry, infantry, heavy cavalry and so forth, albeit with some divergence in equipment and role within the legion. Infantry is by far the most predominant, as cavalry has increasingly come to be provided by the orders of Paladins. Most common are units armed with the ‘koliskos’, a broad-bladed spear in use since before the age of the Republic, and with the simple but effective ‘daga’ sword. The soldiers are heavily armoured, clad in chain or scale mail depending on where they were raised and additionally protected by large winged shields often embossed with the sun emblem of Basilea.
