Secure in their place in the afterlife, they are afraid of little other than dishonour. Even in times of peace, they spend hours each day in the practise of arms, both mounted and on foo

All paladins are trained to fight both on foot and on horseback as heavy cavalry; whilst deployed in the infantry role they are most often referred to as Paladin Foot Guard.

They are most typically armed with the same sword and shield that they use whilst on horseback, or sometimes a heavier, two-handed sword in lieu of their normal weapons.

Kings of War Appearances

1st Edition

The Paladins epitomise the Basileans at peace and at war. Holy men, utterly devoted to worship of the Shining ones, they spend their days in meditation and prayer, aiding the sick and needy, teaching or preserving and spreading ancient knowledge. That is until battle calls – when the Paladins take up their swords and head to war.

2nd Edition


Armoured in heavy, ornate plate mail, the Paladins are also shielded by their faith. They exult in combat, nothing is more sacred to them than the blood of Basilea’s enemies in the dust. They fight either on foot in the Paladin Guard or as Knight Paladins mounted on fiery barded warhorses. The Basilean Guard is the foremost elite infantry of the Basilean legions and the dismounted paladins use hefty two-handed swords to terrifying effect. But it is when mounted and using their famous long lances that the Paladins achieve their truly awesome battlefield potential – the Knight Paladins are amongst the most feared cavalry units in all of Mantica.
