You can’t cut fire with a sword.” - Basilean saying regarding Samacris and Julius

Samacris, also known as Mother of Phoenixes, is a powerful ur-elohi, the reborn half of the Shining One Fotia. When acting in unity with Julius, the Dragon of Heaven, the other half of the sundered shining one, Samacris is undeniably powerful.

Appearance

As an ur-elohi, Samacris stands far taller than a human. From her shoulders sprout pinions, not of unblemished white feathers, but of blue fire.

She is clad in the gleaming aegis of the elohi and wears a cloak of pure white. In her hands, she caries a staff again alight with the burning blue flame.

Biography

Early life

Back in the time before the God War, there was the Celestian Fotia. As was the fate of most of those beings, when the Feluvian mirror broke, Fotia was split in two. Part became the Wicked one Prykagia, while what remained became the shining one still named Fotia. Like her brothers and sisters, the Shining One was left in perpetual war with her wicked counterpart.

The climax of this struggle came when Prykagia attacked his shining half with an artefact of magical ice, a weapon that could harm either one of them. Although Fotia was supported by her mortal followers, including her high priestess, Irdima, Prykagia was able to strike a mortal blow against his counterpart. Seeing the Shining One’s love for her followers as a weakness, the Wicked One feinted at the high priest, before cleaving the goddess in half. Fotia’s followers fled seeing her cleaved in two.Irdima was left alone on the battlefield, cradling the two parts of Fotia’s corpse and weeping. Her tears and weeping prayers were heard and the two halfs of Fotia did not die!

One half, representing the cauterising, vengeful, and warlike nature of fire, became the er-elohi Jullius, the Dragon of Heaven. The other half, representing the nurturing, renewing, and cleansing nature of fire, returned as the ur-elohi Samacris, Mother of Phoenixes. Fotia was reborn as the Phoenix and the Dragon. Separate they are weaker, united they are powerful, their story has become a parable of passion and the indestructibility of love.

Angels Fear to Tread

The twin up-elohi have become a legend in Basilea, coming to the defence of the Hegemony in times of direst need, a powerful force in battle, much like their parable has become a story of inspiration amongst the people.

Samacris and her lover Julius were possibly amongst the Elohim that rallied to the defence of The City of the Golden Horn during the decoy attack on the city by the forces of Mortabris and the daemon Ba’el.

During the God War, Fotia, a Celestian was split into two. The Shining One, who retained the name Fotia, and the Wicked one called Prykagia. The wars between the two aspects were many. Fotia represented the good in fire: the warmth, healing and cleansing flame; whilst Prykagia was the conflagration and wanton destruction that fire can be.

During the Time of Ice, when the power of fire and all who embodied it were waning, Fotia and Prykagia were again battling in a duel on the plains of Ardovikia. This time, Prykagia had managed to wield an artefact of great cold and ice and planned to kill Fotia with it. In a feint, Prykagia struck at Irdima, the high priestess of Fotia, who was much beloved by Fotia. In order to prevent her death, Fotia intervened by placing herself in the way of the blow and was cleaved in twain. Thinking the battle lost, the armies of Good ran, and Prykagia, rejoicing in the victory, did not follow up the win but instead instantly returned home to celebrate.

Irdima was left alone on the battlefield, cradling the two parts of Fotia’s corpse and weeping. Suddenly, by the great power of her words of love and her frantic prayers, a miracle manifested and the two halves did not die. Instead, one half; representing the cauterising, vengeful and warlike nature of fire, became the Ur-Elohi Jullius, the Dragon of Heaven, whilst the other half; the nurturing, renewing and cleansing nature of fire, returned as the Ur-Elohi Samacris, the Mother of Phoenixes. And so, the Shining One who was Fotia, was reborn as the Phoenix and the Dragon. Weaker now individually, they are more powerful united, and their story is told as a parable of the passion and indestructibility of love; their strength in unity, giving rise to sayings such as “You can’t cut fire with a sword”, meaning that two lovers are inseparable.
