Hero Falling is one of two sequels (Faith Aligned) to Steps to Deliverance and takes place several weeks after its events.
About
The fame and success following the Battle of Andro has left ex-Sisterhood mercenary and adventurer Aestelle both wealthy and famous, but also spiritually unfulfilled and disenchanted. Knowing that her actions in the lead up to that battle have awakened an evil in the Mountains of Tarkis, she assembles a group of adventurers from her past to return to the mountains and put right her mistake.
At her side are the famed adventurers Ragran the Mighty, a brutal warrior from the Howling Peaks, and Thesilar Searite, an elven archer famed for her role in defeating the orc warlord Thrundrak Also in the band is Z’akke, a gentle and optimistic salamander mage-priest with his own mission, and Valletto, another veteran of the Battle of Andro who is needed once more for his skills as an Aeromancer.
Braving the ancient corridors and tunnels of the ancient, long forgotten mountain tombs, the band of warriors struggle onward in the face of the undead, simultaneously threatened from within by conflicting motivations and forceful personalities.
The situation for Aestelle is complicated further by the arrival of Khirius, a vampire lord forced to flee by the Order of the Brothermark, and now the unwilling ally of a dark, secretive underground alliance of undead operating within the very heart of Basilea.
Plot Summary
The following contains spoilers and listed in chronological order

Escape to Basilea
Khirius, a 200 year old Vampire, was awoken during the day by loud banging at the doors of his mansion of four years. Hanna, his servant, rushed to his door to alert Khirius that they were under attack by people from Redworth Down. Khirius told Hanna to calm down and that they needed to leave, advising her to go get Tonnen, another servant, and get to the basement while he attempts to slow the attackers down. As the attacks attempted to burn Khirius out of the home, he used his Necromancy to raise the dead (Zombies) to attempt to slow them down. Khirius moved quickly to the basement however was stopped by the arrival of what seemed to be two vampire hunters. Khirius managed to defeat the new arrivals and afterwards summoned more undead, resuming his walk to the basement quickly after.
As Khirius decended the staircase to the basement, he noticed blood trailing down. When Khirius arrived at the basement, he found Garan, a werewolf, standing by the carriage with Tonnen standing in front of him attempting to calm him down. Garan was holding Hanna in his claws. Khirius attempted to calm Garan down and eventually released Hanna with Khirius ordering her to quickly to find the rest of the servants so they can escape. Revealing to Garan that they were being attacked because of Garan's recent killings, Garan charged upstairs with Khirius chasing after to stop him. The mob had already entered the house and Garan began to attack them with Khirius summoning more Zombies to slow them down. More hunters arrived and attacked Garan, including a paladin from the Order of the Brothermark (revealed to be Edvard in Faith Aligned). As the hunters tore down the curtains, the light burned Khirius which prevented him in helping Garan. The paladin from the Order of the Brothermark managed to slice off Garan's head, killing him. Tonnen then arrived to help Khircus escape and they ran back downstairs and got into the carriage along with Hanna. They escaped and started to head towards Basilea.
Returning to Mountains of Tarkis
Aestelle, Salamander Z'akke and Ragran the Mighty were waiting around Mount Fardis in the Mountains of Tarkis, waiting for elf Thesilar Searite to arrive. Aestelle had gathered them to return to the crypt that Orion and her found in when setting up the bridge during the hunt for Dionne in hopes to find treasure. After a nights rest, they continued on without Thesilar.
Eventually the group came upon the bridge that Aestelle helped repair and followed a path to a cave entrance. They found Thesilar waiting for them and after some re-introductions the group headed deeper into the cave towards the catacombs containing the crypt. Aestelle warned of the undead threats ahead and explained that the previous entrance they used before had collapsed and that she was unsure where it will lead to but it is the best she could find.
The group continued down deeper eventually reaching a junction and as Aestelle moved forward, Thesilar grabbed her back which managed to narrowly avoid darts hitting her. Thesilar was angry at Aestelle for drinking and not being at her best.Z'akke managed to work out they were traps set by Aeromancy and examined the nearby corpse. As they are Aeromancy traps and not the normal Petty-Magic traps, he was unable to disable them. Despite this, Z'akke opened the nearby wooden door and Z'akke spotted a wooden chest which he rushed to. As he opened the chest, Dart traps triggered again which missed everyone except Ragran, puncturing his lung. Thesilar and Aestelle attempted to tend to Ragran however Thesilar didn't want to turn back and attempted to encourage Ragran to continue. Ragran insisted to get him out and Aestelle and Z'akke picked him up and moved towards the exit.
After successfully escaping, Aestelle, Z'akke, Ragran and Thesilar rested for the night to gather strength. Aestelle, Ragran and Thesilar Searite began to verbally bicker between themselves about the recent events while Thesilar prepared dinner.
Once dinner was done, Z'akke cleaned their dishes and the group discussed the recent events. They agreed to go back to Torgias and [{Aestelle]] was going to reach out to Valletto via Borjia (who lives in Dennec and previously had helped them contact Valletto during the events of Steps to Deliverance) to get recruit his help against the Aeromancy designed traps within the crypt.
