The Salamanders army is made up of more than just the Salamander race, it is just they are the most frequently encountered members of the army, so the other races are lazy and refer to them all as "The Salamanders".
The Salamanders army are made from the following four reptilians
About
The reptilians are an ancient species, a race brought forth by the Primogenitor Bhanek, when Bhanek created them he grew bored of them and their unlovely appearance, leaving them to do as they wish.
During the God War the reptilians were sought out by both sides, the reptilians chose the Shining Ones, evolving under their sorcerous influence. After the God War the Shining Ones forgot about them and left the reptilians to make their own way.
Before the Time of Ice and after the God War, the reptilian race forged themselves a large and sprawling Empire with a powerful navy. The Salamanders favour deserts, hot springs and volcanic islands.
After the war with Winter, the Salamanders mainly reside in The Three Kings, fighting the curse of Winter with the internal fires of Kthorlaq. They are the protectors of the people and the oppressed, taking Krhorlaq's sacrifice into their essence.
The Salamanders domain stretched to the very edges of the land, so they took to the sea and became a seafaring nation. Taking to life on the sea naturally, the flotillas grew to great armadas that would travel the globe, rivalling event the ancient elven fleets.
The Salamanders became great merchants, trading with the dwarfs, Ophidians, northern barbaric humans and even the orcs. Trading goods in swampy plains so inimical to other races , but which provided rare and exotic plants, herbs, minerals and ores with which to trade with the rest of the world, they quickly became a society driven by its merchant class.
Mighty harmonious cities were built in the lands of reptilians, where each sub species would take to the environs best suited to their physiology in the outside world:
- Salamanders to hot springs, volcanic isles, and the like;
- Arkosaurs to warm seas; and so on
Each city was ruled over by one of the great clans, supported by money from the wealthy merchant families. In this way, trade drove the development, expansion, and rulership of the cities.
Any ruling clan which ignored the interests of the merchants would swiftly find itself supplanted by another, and the power of the reptilian people as a whole grew immensely as the merchants consolidated their position and the Clans ruled in their favour.
Over time, one Clan city rose to pre-eminence, thanks not to the merchants but rather to the individual born there who would rise to be the most important, influential, and revered Clan Lord in the history of her species. Her name was Kthorlaq, known to this day as the Deliverer.
Tradition and rituals rooted back to their venerated Kthorlaq, dominate the lives of reptilians, and Salamanders in particular. Built upon responsibility and self-sacrifice in pursuit of the betterment of their people and the protection of their civilisation.
The Ordeal of Fire restricted to those warriors who have proven themselves many times over in battle, or against all the odds gained a famous victory or great deed, the ritual grants the individual great power and strength, but at a cost, so is not taken lightly. After the Ordeal of Fire, the Salmanders eyes glow permanently due to the fires burning within them, they march with the power and wisdom of their ancestors in their steps, looked on as leaders and great warriors.
The cost, their lifespan is much shorter, they run hotter but faster. They never nee to return to the Three Kings to replenish their own heat, so will go further and deeper into the world fight. When these champions fall, the reptilians will risk all to return their body to the flames of the Three Kings.
