Kings of War Wiki

Free Dwarfs exist due to The God War taking a toll on the dwarfs’ ability to trust outsiders and diplomatic bonds fell.

About

While it was a bitter and untrusting time, it was also a time of expansion into the north with great wealth in gold and gems and the founding of many new holds. Paying no heed to the warnings of the Warsmiths and Stone Priests they ventured into the lands about the Abyss. The evil work within the shattered lands tore from the depths to the surface the precious ores and gems.

The Winter War marked the first signs of the division of the dwarfs. After many weeks of deliberation the High King Odador the Twice Crowned of Abkhazia announced that the dwarfs will march to the aid of the Elves and Men.

The northern dwarfs refused the order of the high king to join the war, secure in their wealth and power. Winter was defeated but at a high cost, the loss of the whole Dwarven Royal line.

The northern dwarfs did not go unscathed and suffered greatly, Winter killed their surface meat and good leaf. The Winter War brought new terrors, breaking through from the top came the hordes of orcs and goblins, while from below assaulted the horrors of the Abyss.

Whole holds, clans and families were wiped out in what is known as The Fall of the North. Only five holds survived: Cwl Gen, Gars, Marn, Llyfanifeg and Rhyn Dufaris. The Dwarf kind were all now kingless. The southern dwarfs see their northern kindred as betrayers and oath breakers, as they refused to join the war and blame them for the loss of the royal line.

The north hate and curse the south for following what they regard as an unwise order from an unwise king, leaving them friendless against a terrible foe that would have devoured every dwarven hold, clan and kinship had it not been for the north's fighting strength. They would never trust each other again, the Free Clans declared they will never be ruled by any southern king, lord or power,so were born the Free Dwarfs.

Escaping the tyranny of Golloch and a return to the old ways, the north became a dwarven haven. It is rare for Warsmiths to pilgrimage to these realms, therefore the secrets of several chambers are now exclusive to either the Imperial Dwarfs or the Free Dwarfs. This has led to differences in battle and culture.

Culloch Mor is the one place Free and Imperial dwarfs can meet without fear of violence.
