J’Zik Gearlund is a Dwarf Priest that was introduced in 1.1 – Kings and Legends. J'zik has pledged that he would be the light that hunts the servants of darkness and all other kinds of wicked creature and holds the Staff of Lune

Biography

He was the son of a minor noble whose family was wiped out by the demonic forces of the Abyss. His clan attempted to establish a new hold however it struggled to survive. J'Zik would often go against his fathers wishes and continue making attacked to the north.

J'Zik's New Purpose

In one particular attack, after setting up a succesful ambush he pursued them which led him and his allies to the ruins of his old clan hold. There he was attacked by many Goblins which had based themselves there and overwhelmed J'Zik. J'Zik and his allies were forced into the same chambers where his ancestors had made their last stand.

In these chambers, he found an odd room with a hastily constructed forge. This was where the last stores of supplies had been held and repaired. Still in the hands of the now skeletal forge master was a hammer-staff inscribed with runes the like of which J’Zik had never seen called the Staff of Lune.

Upon taking the weapon up, J’Zik was transformed: he was engulfed in a white magical light summoned by the weapon. The magic of the Staff of Lune healed his fellow warriors, the effect blinding the Goblins. As he lead his small band back out to the surface, their Abyssal brethren moved to block their path. The power of J’Zik’s hammer-staff was revealed to hold a two-fold effect. While it healed the wounds of those who serve the light, it blasted the souls of those that serve 'darkness' which freed them.

The Abyssal Dwarfs fled and J’Zik ordered any surviving wounded to be brought before him, inspired by the power of his newly found weapon. Two wounded Abyssal Dwarfs and a Goblin were found and brought to him. J’Zik used its magic to drive away the darkness fromhis fallen kin and restore their cursed bodies back to those of normal Dwarfs. The captives pleaded to be punished for the wicked lives they had lived, but J’Zik refused and instead forgave them. In return they pledged their lives to him. The single remaining Goblins he set free to carry word back to its kin.

The message was clear: J’Zik would be the light that hunts the servants of 'darkness' and all other kinds of wicked creature. Still he stressed this point more than all else, he would set those free whose hearts craved absolution.

Clan Exile

J'Zik and his healed allies returned back to the small hold which was aflame with controversy. The lord prince they knew had returned victorious but different.

He was calm, controlled and distant at times. He gave speeches at gatherings, denounced parts of Dwarf tradition, declared that Dwarfs should not hold grudges as long as the darkness threatened the world. He stressed making new alliances and reopening to the world outside of their clan’s spheres. He even said that he would forgive past wrongs if the forgiven would stand with him against the Abyss.

When he clashed with the holds elders over the new ‘redeemed’ members of his new beliefs, his father was forced to exile him along with the 'purified' Dwarfs and all others that seemed to listen too closely. J’Zik travelled from hold to hold accompanied by his followers, taking whoever would follow him in his crusade. His message of casting out the darkness from mortal souls appealed to many who had lost loved ones, knew their kin where corrupted by 'darkness' and those who gave up on Dwarf society or were cast from it

Spreading His Word

J'Zik was often expelled or banned from holds, only then to regain entry with the return of a lost relic or icon lost in a war. Once in a while he is seen leading small groups of Dwarfs to convey his message and, when needed, marching with a host of followers, ready for battle.

J’Zik commands many ‘redeemed’ and ‘enlightened’ that seem to share his aura and calm demeanour, including many fearless warriors pledged to die for him. It is rumoured that J’Zik has even ventured into the lands of Men and Elves to recruit new followers. It is said he has founded a hold of his own near the border with the Abyss, where his followers congregate to live their lives for othe purpose of defeating the darkness that took their people and broke their world. A hold being a mix of Dwarfs, Human and Elves.

Some say he is as possessed by light as the Abyssals are by darkness

Trivia

  • FIrst appeared in 1.1 - Kings and Legends as a hero unit.
  • J'Zik had the ability to heal units, which is probably why he was dropped since dwarfs lost all their magic (except Surge). He has not been introduced back into the modern Kings of War 3rd Edition
