Hackpaws have been an Cavalry unit for the Ratkin faction since their introduction in Kings of War 2.1 - Uncharted Empires 2nd Edition Rulebook supplement book.

About

Hackpaws are Scurriers who are tasked with raiding the fleabag pens and capturing mawbeasts from goblin tribes as they see them as easy prey. The captured beasts, which the Ratkin find suitably nimble, are ridden back to the Ratkin lairs where selected warriors known as Hackpaws train to ride the best of them. The rest are eaten.

The Mawbeasts stolen from the goblins regularly break free of their pens and cause havoc – eating the gathered Ratkin before being captured or killed. Those that are broken-in by their captors are ridden with a kind of wild glee by their owners. After all, there aren’t many beasts that are lower than a measly Ratkin, so mastery over another living being must send them dizzy with power.

They were reintroduced in Kings of War 3.1 - Uncharted Empires 3rd Edition Rulebook when the Ratkin faction was introduced into 3rd Edition

Second Edition Biography

Scurrier teams will raid the feabag pens of the goblin tribes they see as easy prey. The captured beasts are ridden back to the ratkin lairs where selected warriors train to ride the best of them. The rest are eaten.
