Vermintide are a Swarm unit of scurrying rats, some are normal size, some are the size of dogs!

They have been a unit for the Ratkin faction since their introduction in Kings of War 2.1 - Uncharted Empires 2nd Edition Rulebook supplement book.

About

The first sign of a coming Ratkin incursion is large swarms of hideous, malnourished rats. They ruin stores and sow seeds of panic before their larger kin emerge, armed with cruel weapons of war.

They were reintroduced but changed to a Swarm unit in Kings of War 3.1 - Uncharted Empires 3rd Edition Rulebook when the Ratkin faction was introduced into 3rd Edition

Goaded by their handlers, multitudes of smaller vermin often accompany the armies of the ratkin; swarming round the enemy like a vicious, biting carpet of death.
