Thesilar hadn’t taken actually believed that a six foot orc could be spread over quite such a wide area of floor, but Kapoka was proving him very wrong, and showing every sign of enthusiasm in doing so.”- The Warlord of Galahir

Kapoka, also known as Kapoka the Gladewalker or Kapoka the Hidden Saviour, is an ancient, taciturn, Druid. A member of the ancient race of Gladewalkers that have tended the forests of Pannithor since time immemorial, Kapoka is rare amongst his race for his willingness to leave those forests and interact with the peoples of the wider world.

Biography

Early life

An ancient being, Kapoka spent much of his life tending to the forests in his charge, including, although possibly not restricted to the Forest of Galahir. When he was just a sapling, the Gladewalker had travelled with the armies of The Green Lady, not fighting, but using his powers to confuse the enemy and heal his allies. At some point this peaceable nature changed. His Forest home was vandalised by the orc Krudger Thrundak Skullsplitter during the warlord’s rise to power. Committing himself to revenge upon that particularly cruel orc, Kapoka decided to leave his forest and track the vandal down.

Battle with Grug the Troll

For an age, his hatred of the orcs had become his defining feature. He travelled through the mountains of Basilea, along the Ardovikian Plains and along the coast of Primovantor, all the while listening to the whispers of the Forest, finding their secret camps and hidden paths. Bit by bit, Kapoka tracked down the tribe that had attacked his forest. He discovered a portion of the tribe in the far west, in the heavily forested hills of the successor Kingdoms, near the city of Valentica. Knowing he needed help, and with the locals to afraid to fight with him, the Druid recruited a band of adventurers, namely the salamander warrior Hrrath Flamespitter, the dwarf Guraf Dammerson, and the Naiad Demon Hunter Arianya. This long vendetta had had its effect upon Kapoka, as he was now questioning whether disappearing in a blaze of glory and being taken to join the gods would be preferable to a heroic victory. After a long and protracted fight, Kapoka and his companions were able to clear the various barracks of green skins and confront the being now leading the tribe, Grug the troll boss. Following that battle, Kapoka sat for weeks contemplating on what he must do next. He needed focus and had not yet found the leader of the orc tribe, his nemesis Thrundak

Revenge on Thrundak Skullsplitter

The Druid was not the only being intent on hunting down the orc warlord. Skullsplitter had made other enemies, in particular a human settlement in need of a band of hero’s to fight their cause. Kapoka joined up with a band of heroes that been recruited by a local village to extract a merchant from the orc’s lair, and so he set off with Hrrath Flamespitter, Thesilar the elf and Guraf Dammerson. Communicating with his new associates telepathically, the ancient tree guardian led the group deep into the warlords lair at Penn-Scarr, providing a cautious but relentless focus. When the merchant was freed and the orcs treasures found, it was Kapoka that urged the others to continue in and confront the orc. That confrontation ended in Kapoka taking his revenge in a way only a being of his size and strength could. Suffice to say Thrundak never desecrated another forest again.

Halpi’s Rift

With his revenge complete, Kapoka retreated one again to meditation. Thinking back on the violence his quest had led him to, the now ageing druid felt ashamed. There he sat for years, becoming one with the Forest. It was there, just before the events of Halp’s Rift, that the Green Lady found him. While he did not want to return to those violent ways, Kapoka conceded to accompany the Lady’s forces once again, healing and supporting, if not fighting.

Appearance

Kapoka is large and impressive being, standing much taller than a man or even elf, with tall deer like horns adding to his impressive stature. While he lacks the bulk of an ogre, the Gladewalker is immensely strong. Covered in a thick, bark like skin, his only clothing is a chequered garment, held on by large golden pins. Able to rend with his bare hands and cast powerful magic, Kapoka does not necessarily need weapon art, although he does carry a tall, blade tipped Druid’s staff.
