The Edge of the Abyss is an event that occured over a 4 year (ingame) timespan between 3850 until 3854. It is also known as the expanding of the abyss during the event but known as the flooding of the abyss due to its conclusion.

Events that take place

Splintering of the Brotherhood

About

Occurred when the Brotherhood was attacked by the Forces of the Abyss and split into two branches, the Order of the Green Lady and the Order of the Brothermark which is led by Brother Odo.

Invasion of the Halpi Mountains

Abysssal Dwarfs, led by Dravak Dalken, invaded Halpi Mountains and pushed the Free Dwarfs out.

The Siege of Cwl Gen

The Siege of Cwl Gen was a battle which ulimately was lost by the Free Dwarfs and result in the falling of the hold of Cwl Gen.

To by time for surviving Egilax Clan to escape south, Jarrun Iremonger bought time by emptying his workshop and the hold's entire armoury at the Abyssal Dwarfs forces. Over 100 warmachines help the walls of teh hold for seven days and seven nights while the escape took place. Eventually, after the last of the Ironclad had escaped and the ammunition reserves were empty, the siege ended and the hold fell to the enemy. Jarrun and his remaining crew fought to escape south themselves by detonating the last of their powder reserves which brought down some of the hold ontop of the advancing forces.

The Battle of the Bloody Steppe

The Battle of the Bloody Steppe was a battle led by Sveri Egilax and an army of berserkers as an attempt to counter the invading forces. This would prove unsuccessful and Sveri would retreat south to join his clan's remaining forces.

The Battle at Rhyn Dufaris/Battle 2: March to War

The Battle at Rhyn Dufaris was the final battle of the invasion and was desperate attempt by the surviving Free Dwarfs warriors to hold back the invading Abyssal Dwarfs forces. They hoped to hold the enemy back long enough for the clans survivors to escape to Abercarr across The Chainway. This battle would be known as the first time where the Free Dwarf clans had unified and fought together.

The evacuation efforts were slow as The Chainway couldnt transport too many at one time. Herneas and his rangers were the last to arrive and alerted the Free Dwarf defenders that the Abyssal Dwarf forces were coming. The remaining forces fought off the Abyssal Dwarfs, losing many during this last stand, eventually this would prove successful in buying enough time for the Free Dwarf survivors to escape.

Clans that took part in this included the Daamuz Clan, Egilax Clan, Helgwin Clan and Thistledew Clan

The combined Free Dwarf clans were enough to hold the Abyssal Dwarf forces back and the Free Dwarfs would destroy The Chainway behind them with the help of the Thistledew Clan. Baine Thistledew used his enchangted Greataxe and broke the chainings holding the Chainway, sinking it to the depths. This would stop the Abyssal Dwarfs advancing into Dwarfs lands however stranded the Free Dwarfs on Abercarr, ending the invasion.

Outcome

Free Dwarfs would be pushed out of the Halpi Mountains with the exception of the Helgwin Clan at Crafanc who would continue to hold out.
Abyssal Dwarfs took command of many holds such as Cwl Gen, Llyngyr Cadw, Crag Hudd and Jarrun Bridge
Free Dwarfs would be taken in by the Dwarfs which caused ongoing fiction between the two cultures.

Battle 6: Opportuinity Knocks. Goblins win however are routed when the main The Green Lady forces return after the flooding of the abyss

Outcome

Goblins are eventually routed out of Forest of Galahir and Grogger Split-Tooth is defeated, vowing to return even stronger.
