Berserker Braves

Berserker Braves, also known as Berserker Braves, have been a Large Infantry unit for the Ogres faction since their introduction in Kings of War 1.0 - Kings and Legends supplement book.

About

These individuals group together in small warbands, or rarely into whole clans, and march to whatever battles they can find. Fighting with wild abandon and seemingly feeling no pain, these Berserkers do not stop fighting until they are killed outright.

Wielding two handed weapons which a man would struggle even to lift, the ogres are a whirlwind of destructive force, barrelling through entire regiments of the foe and scattering even the bravest and most capable warriors around them.

They have been included in every version of the game, orignally called Ogre Berserker Braves then changed to Berserker Braves from 2nd Edition in the Ogres Unit List.

First Edition Biography

To be chosen by the great Ogre captains as they select new recruits at the Thing is the dream of all young, eager Braves. However, even amongst the Ogres there are those who don’t quite make the grade: are not considered strong enough or able enough to fight in the armies of the Ogre elite. Others are marked at birth for a different path than the ranks of the warrior core.

The Warlocks scour the tribes for these outcasts and especially for those identified with a potential for sorcery. While the Thing provides a useful concentration of candidates for recruitment, a Warlock will often visit Ogre families and pass judgement on Ogre young, taking them under their guardianship if they believe they show promise. It is considered a great honour for a Warlock to choose your child, even if you never see them again.

These chosen few become a Warlock’s followers – a devoted, close-knit group of fanatical neophytes. All are trained in Ogre lore, devotion to the Ogre gods and, for those with the gift, training in the spiritual and mental conditioning required of a future tribal Shaman.

When a Warlock goes to war, his followers come too. While they may lack the strength and military precociousness exhibited by the blocks of Ogre warriors around them, they more than make up for this with their fanatical fervour and unwavering steadfastness. Adorned in their spiritual tattoos and tribal relics, a Warlock can feed on their presence, drawing extra power to his own spells, channelling it through their zealous faith.
