Arhak Soulbinder was the Chief Warsmith of Cwl Gen before they betrayed their Lord to the Abyssal Dwarfs, causing the Lord to be defeated and succumb to the Red Curse, becoming the first Berserker Lord, Martraxa
About
Arhak Soulbinder was practising the magical arts when the oldest of the Abyssal Dwarf Iron-Casters was a mere apprentice. He has been a respected (and feared) lieutenant to generations of Abyssal Dwarf overlords, and has led countless armies into battle over the centuries, with a grim reputation among his many enemies for crushing all who dare stand against him.
A thousand years ago, Arhak had been chief warsmith for the Dwarf Lord of Cwl Gen, but had succumbed to the dark arts and, eager for power and forbidden knowledge, betrayed his lord to join the servants of the Abyss. He owes his longevity to the fact that he has replaced much of his frail, mortal flesh with machinery of steel and brass. Indeed, he is more machine than flesh now.
Half his face is masked with a bronze skull, and a seerstone hammered into his right eye socket gives him preternatural sight. His mechanical right arm can twist iron with its relentless grip, and his torso is attached to six machine-legs which allow him to scuttle about. These contraptions are powered by a sorcerous engine
from which extends a tube leading to a flame-belching muzzle strapped to his left forearm. He sometimes flies into battle atop his terrifying manticore, Martaxwar, detached from his metal legs, with his torso riveted to the monster’s battle-harness.
Arhak has mastered the dark art of soul-binding, which involves infusing a creature’s trapped soul inside a mechanical construct or re-animated corpse. He enjoys complete mastery over semi-living warriors such as the Immortal Guard, Obsidian Golems and the half-sentient war engines of the Abyssal Dwarfs.
Arhak rose to become supreme Iron-Caster among the Fallen Ones, and each berserker Lord of Cwl Gen was sworn to avenge his ancestor’s disgrace.
Trivia
- It is said that the Red Curse will be lifted only when the dwarfs’ dark kin are finally erased from the world.
