Biography

Within the sects of Iron-casters – the fell mages of the Abyssal Dwarfs – is to be found an inner circle of truly damned practitioners of the darkest of magics. Those that are chosen by Ariagful, the Queen of the Black Flame, form a cadre of priests and magi able to wield the fire-magic of this vile Bitter One like the Elves wield the powers of the earth.

Masters of the flame-things that slither and writhe through the ocean of liquid rock deep within the Abyss, the servants of Ariagful rarely wander far from the fell heat of their brass towers. When they do, however, the lands of Mantica tremble and the kings of those lands cower in fear, for the Black Flame of Ariagful is a dire weapon indeed, against which few can hope to stand.

Ghenna holds a special place within the inner circle of the sect of the Queen of the Black Flame. He is the Keeper of the Black Flame, and as such the only mortal allowed to tread the blackened flagstones of the unholy of unholies – the inner chamber of the sect’s temple-bastion. Within that chamber burns the Black Flame, animated by the fell will of the Queen herself.

Through that darkly flickering flame, the Bitter One speaks directly to Ghenna and grants a portion of her power to her servants. As the pre-eminent practitioner of the faith, Ghenna is the most blessed of all, and when he goes to war he bears the flame within him, kindled from that which burns in the inner chamber.

In battle, Ghenna is a silent reaper of souls, his form swathed in swirling darkness. No ray of sunlight ever touches the Keeper of the Black Flame and wherever he steps he leaves behind a trail of withered vegetation and scorched earth. The air shimmers about the Keeper and it is said that those unused to the heat of the Abyss are easily overcome by the poisonous air that surrounds him.

Upon setting his coal-black eyes upon the foe, Ghenna utters words no mortal lips should be able to pass, the air shimmering about him and cinders raining down from even the clearest of skies. As the light bleeds from the sky the Keeper of the Black Flame invokes the power of his Queen and her magics are unleashed upon the heads of the foes of the Abyss. Ghenna knows many spells and incantations. With but a word he can turn his enemy’s blood to molten rock. With a gesture he can cause the skies to rain searing gobbets of lava.

He can suffocate entire legions with noxious sulphur drawn upwards from the molten depths far below their feet. But of all the spells Ghenna is master of, by far the most destructive in his arcane arsenal is that which causes a blast of searing black flame to shoot out from his upheld palm and blast his enemies to ashes. All across Mantica there are silent battle sites turned black by the scattered remains of those who have fallen to Ghenna’s fell powers, and countless more will no doubt be slain by the power of the Queen of the Black Flame
