Penn-Scarr was originally build as a mining location for dwarven prospectors. It is located either in or near the great Forest of Galahir, within raiding distance of the human village of Sarennia and other small settlements of the Young Kingdoms, but isolated from any major cites. During that time under dwarven stewardship, a complex series of tunnels and chambers was built. Seemingly being of little other use to the dwarfs, once the mineral wealth to be found within had been stripped out and hauled away, Penn-Scarr was abandoned and fell into disrepair. It was in that sate that it was found by the orc krudger Thrundak Skullsplitter and his previously nomadic band of orcs. Quickly settling in, the orcs explored and then expanded on the old dwarven mining complex, carving out new tunnels and turning the abandoned mine into a veritable fortress. It was from here that Thrundak raided the surrounding area, bringing immense wealth back to Pen-Scarr’s treasure rooms and it was from here that The Skullsplitter hoped to rule an empire.
Geography
Little is known of the internal structure of Penn-Scarr, other than it followed the common basic structures of any dwarf hold. It’s cells, for example, being located near the barracks rooms. Deeper still were the treasure rooms where Thrundak later horded his loot. The old mine does appear to make use of the hidden doors so beloved of the dwarfs.
