While Keldan was hidden in secret in the lands of Basilea as a mercenary for hire, he has acquired a tanned, swarthy complexion and his hair has bleached a lighter shade of blonde.
History
Agent of the Twilight Kin
The Twilight Kin rarely act to directly confront other races, preferring to use the arts of subterfuge and assassination to achieve their inscrutable ends. Agents are deployed in every major city of Mantica, their role to kill those who the dark seers of their race foresee will bring trouble to their labyrinthian schemes.
Keldan was one one such agent, operating in the lands of the Basilean Hegemony. For many years he was one of the most successful agents – or Shadows – employed by his kin, and many unsuspecting men, women and children met their ends at his hands. Between assignments, Keldan earned his crust and maintained his cover as an Elven Ranger, joining parties of adventurers on various quests.
His time spent in the hot climate of Basilea had bleached his hair and tanned his pale flesh to the extent that this ruse was possible, and it was here that Keldan fell into problems. Questing with a particular group, he fell into the company of an Elven warrior maiden from the city of Ileuthar, named Erenya. In spite of himself, he found himself liking the woman, and they became companionable, even friendly, in their time questing together. At first he had merely found her useful, adding to the authenticity of his cover, but as time went on he grew to respect her, finding in her none of the weaknesses or flaws which had been taught him from birth as the keystones of the Elves.
Keldan spent many years in the lands of Basilea as a mercenary for hire, he has acquired a tanned, swarthy complexion and his hair has bleached a lighter shade of blonde. He is as arrogant as any of his kind, and a difficult individual to truly like, but his ability with his twinned blades means that his services are always in demand.
Final Twilight Assignment
Keldan’s final assignment from the seers of Leith was to murder Erenya – they had foreseen her as removing Keldan from their grasp and denying them a valuable asset in the largest human settlement in the world.
Keldan, torn between duty and his own sense of personal honour, confessed all to his companion, hoping that she might understand and redeem him. It was not to be – Erenya was well-aware of the existence of the Shadows throughout the world and the nature of their work. She would not associate herself with a child-murderer, and a fight ensued in which Keldan was forced to kill her. As he thrust his blade through her heart and watched the light die in her eyes, a part of him died too, and he turned his back on his people forever more.
Post-Shadow Agent
Keldan continues to hire himself out as a mercenary adventurer, no longer hiding behind a lie. There are many who refuse to associate with him out of principle, but equally as many recognise his skills and abilities and are willing to quest with him at their side.
