Am'Bira is an abyssal temptress who acts as one of the secondary antagonists in the novel 'Steps to Deliverance'.
She returns to the mortal world of Pannithor in the follow up novel 'Faith Aligned', where more is revealed about her backstory.
Biography
Originally born as a human, Am'Bira's mortal life was that of a Basilean sister. After she was executed for a series of crimes, her soul was tortured in the fires of the Abyss until she caught the watchful eye of Teynne, an Abyssal Champion. Teynne elevated her to the ranks of his succubi where, after demonstrating a bloody ferocity in battle, she slowly garnered enough respect to warrant further elevation to become a dreaded temptress. After Teynne selected the renegade Basilean captain, Dionne, to join his growing army of followers, Am'Bira was chosen to introduce him to the ways of the Abyss. Am'Bira was slain in combat at the Battle of Andro, cut down by another ex-sister, Aestelle.
As punishment for her failure, Am'Bira was tortured in the Abyss until she was elevated back to the ranks of the succubi. She led a small group to the western reaches of Basilea, tasked with intercepting a relic bound from Spartha to the Order of the Brothermark. After initially failing in her task, she successfully manipulated a necromancer of The Coven and was elevated back to the rank of temptress as a reward for her success.
Trivia
Am'Bira's execution as a human is featured in a flashback in the novel Faith Aligned. The physical description of her execution site and the event itself is inspired by the real history of Bodmin Prison in Cornwall, UK - itself a former execution site.
