The Battle of Dawn Keep was a novel that has now confirmed to be cancelled by Winged Hussar Publishing, (who publish fantasy books under the Zmok Books handle) and one of the Lost Stories of Pannithor
About
In times past, the elves of Pannithor raised wondrous cities and crafted marvels of magic as yet unmatched by even the most talented wizards of Primovantor or Basilea. But those days are long gone, leaving the elves wracked with the guilt of bringing Pannithor’s golden age to a cataclysmic end. Many elves mutter that their time as a people is done. They pine for days past, rarely considering the present, much less daring to dream of the future.
Emylde Sarn, a young elf-maid of the Eastern Kindred, has long been afflicted by the same malaise of the spirit that grips many of her kin, but is shaken out of it, brutally, when her caravan comes across two lost mercenaries – the ogre Kalgamak and his red goblin servant, Nibbler – starving and thirsty upon the borders of the savannah and the desert. They tell her tales of the elves upon the northern continent, far from many of the traditional kindreds, where, upon the Ardovikian Plain, ambitious members of all races can create and cohabit, unfettered by the baggage of their people’s histories.
Desperate to find hope and purpose, Emylde joins the two mercenaries, taking them up on their offer to escort her to the plain, for they were intent on passing by that way on their way home to the Mammoth Steppe. On their journey, they hear of an enterprising elven prince, whose castle, Dawn Keep, represents a reflowering of elven influence in Northern Mantica. Her convictions now confirmed, Emylde pledges both her sword and her spells to support the prince and, alongside her new allies, fights to defend Dawn Keep from its avaricious rivals. For the first time in her life, Emylde feels that she can make a difference – that she, and her people, have a future worth fighting for.
