Orcs' Bane is a ship in the Dwarfs Armada and under the command of Jalgin 'Saltbeard' Thistledew

About

Orcs' Bane is based off of the RuneAxe-class design and exchanges further firepower for crew capacity.

Powering through the chaos of battle with their steam engines, Orcs' Bane is tasked with entangling enemy ships, its grapple punching through hulls and ensnaring masts, drawing the two vessels inexorably into close engagement. Only then does the Orcs' Bane deploy its secret weapon: the boarding ramps that could well be mistaken for gunport shields drop down, crunching onto the gunwales of the enemy vessel, and from the armoured compartment within comes a full complement of Ironwatch Marines, the dwarfs’ elite boarding warriors. Sweeping the decks clear with rifle fire before engaging with keen-edged axes, it is a hardy foe indeed who can resist their assault.

The Orc’s Bane is the dwarf’s unique ship in Armada, representing an infamous Privateer. This ship boasts increased armour, a higher crew strength, and superior firepower. Not only that, but the Orc’s Bane gains a bonus when grappling ships the same size or smaller, due to the experience gained through many years of Privateering. What’s more, the crew is more likely to inflict Crushing Blows in Boarding Actions.

History

Orcs’ Bane whose duty was to originally defend the chainway from the predations of orc flotillas. They were caught ill-prepared, however, when the Abyssal Dwarfs marched upon them in great numbers. Jalgin could do little as the chainway was severed, and his people slaughtered. Rescuing what survivors he could, Jalgin turned his thoughts to vengeance.

They now act mostly as a privateer vessel, by holding letters of marque from the Golden Horn, the Free Dwarfs of Estacarr, and even the Imperial Dwarfs of Dolgarth. His crew of hardened and embittered veterans and berserkers live for the thrill of battle and plunder, but hold a special hatred for the foul denizens of Tragar.

Trivia

  • Despite being noted in lore as being indepedent as a privateer after the Chainway loss, they are included in the Dwarfs Armada ship roster as a selectable unit
