Chill is deep in the Ice Mountains, on the edge of the Howling Peaks range and is the captial city of the Northern Alliance Faction
About
For over a decade, as the alliance slowly tried to build settlements in the snowy plains, it was constantly faced with difficulties. First were logistical, as supplies were hard to come by in the frozen north and getting resources from the south was extremely treacherous. There were also constant raids by orcs and goblins, forcing most to focus on defense rather then construction. And possibly the most worrying for many was the constant disappearance of Talannar, who was known to leave important matters to his chiefs while he traveled to a secret location that he refused to speak upon. Each time he left causing those he left behind to wonder if he would ever return.
This all came to a head when scouts detected a massive horde of orcs marching towards the outer edges of alliance territory. Soon settlements on the nations borders were being raided and eventually most of the the nations citizens were forced to head to the main settlement of Blackridge, which many were sure would be there doom.
Blackridge, the largest of the Alliance settlements, was attacked by Orcs and Goblins on all sides, Talannar ordered the retreat to a new home.
Pushed back on all sides, Talannar made a decision. Gathering his tribal chiefs and clan lords, he ordered a full retreat to a place known to most as Wraithsight. Now at the time, Wraithsight was known as a cursed land. Any who travelled there were said to go mad and Talannars chiefs immediately protested. Protests that were immediately quelled as Talannar told them of his plan. Plans the lords refused to speak of as they left the tent, but the renewed purpose in their stride gave hope to many under their command.
Up into the mountains, through the pass of Hykrim and across the mighty Fangspire glacier to a place known to the most northern clans as Wraithsight.
The journey from Blackridge to Wraithsight was full of peril. As snow trolls and clansmen held off the forces of greenskins, the refugees continued to try to escape towards whatever awaited them.
Many were lost in the retreat, whole clan families wiped out, great armies of snow tolls sacrificing themselves to ensure the Alliance's retreat.
Although they were many harrowing moments, the moment that most sticks to memory was when they were forced to travel through a deep chasm. As they traveled as quickly as they could, the greenskins shamans used their foul magics to split a large chunk of a mountain, causing a massive sheet of ice to fall that would not only kill many, but also cut off the refugees line of retreat. In that critical moment, another member of the alliance saved the day.
After two more months of travel, the refugees finally arrived at their destination.
Raised and made from the rock and ice, a majestic city, framed by the twin peaks of Usmund and Burgljot. A vast, glittering blue ice wall surrounded the construction and ran as far as could be seen.
Atop of it were lines of ice bolt throwers. The modified elven ballistas ready to rain death on any who would dare approach the walls.
Inside the wall are elegant spires and buildings of azure blue ice and jet black obsidian, at the heart an imposing and beautiful citadel.
And in front of gates ready to meet them, was Talannar. Riding with him was a fresh army of men and elves and even more impressive, sitting atop the wall was the frostdrake known as Einnar. The legendary beast roaring in welcome to the tired survivors. With that, the refugees flowed into the city and began their new life in their new home. A fortress city known as chill.
The Alliance reached their goal. They were home.
The city is a marvel. Beyond the walls are warm gardens beneath massive multifaceted ice and stone towers. The streets are lined with bright banners and you can constantly hear the sound of music and song. And, if you listen close, you can occasionally hear a sound that is very rare in Elvenholme. The sound of laughing elven children.
After the escape from the orcish horde, the northern alliance has quickly worked to re-establish themselves and shore up their defense. For several leagues around the city, you can see mountains dotted with watchtowers and forts. Further out, new settlements are quickly being established and reinforced with defenses and garrisons.
Not only that, but travel between the settlements and the southern lands is kept safe and swift with new roads and constant patrols by alliance troops.
Already, many traders and merchants have returned from the north with astonishing stories of the wonders of the northern alliance and mercenaries have started calling Talannar the silver emperor for the generous amounts of newly minted silver coins he has given them for their services.
