The pirate queen Lucretia Nightshade has plagued the Infant Sea for over a century, and her name has become legend. Lucretia is a [[vampire]] – one who was long ago cast out of [[Ophidia]] for her warmongering. Lucretia holds the belief that the Undead have become weak and undisciplined over the centuries. Necromancers raise hordes of corpse-puppets, and fledgling vampires grant their dark gift to all and sundry, weakening the ancient bloodlines of their kind.

Lucretia has a particular hatred of ‘lesser’ Undead – unpleasant reminders of her own dark nature. She has sent many a Necromancer to a watery grave for practising their dark arts in her domain. Though her pirate fleet loots and plunders to survive, Lucretia herself plans her targets carefully, seeing herself as a force of nature who winnows out the weak and undisciplined. And yet, over the long years of her campaign, she has been forced to many times raise her crew from the dead. The sloops that follow in her wake were once all crewed by the living – [[Basileans]], [[Dwarfs]] and even Rhordians, united beneath her banner. But that, too, has changed. Now, when the red flag of her frigate, the [[Ravenheart]], is seen on the horizon, all know at once that the dead have come.
